Martha C. Chemas, Esq. is a multilingual licensed attorney. She may best be described as a “corporate generalist.”

 

Upon admission to the practice of law, Martha’s capital markets aligned roles, at elite multinational law firms, headquartered in Manhattan, offered her the opportunity to support litigation proximate to a >60 billion dollar (USD) bankruptcy, and defend in sophisticated antitrust, and mergers and acquisitions related matters, meeting then HSR reporting thresholds.

In 2023, at the commencement of the third decade of her legal career, Ms. Chemas audited a three course "Philosophy, Science and Religion" series at The University of Edinburgh, thus returning to a previous area of study³ and was subsequently invited to complete a Certificate in Education at Moray House.

She has previously attained a certificate in counterterrorism (2014), and has greatly enjoyed developing and presenting Continuing Legal Education to her colleagues, beginning in 2011. In 2014 Ms. Chemas obtained admission before the Supreme Court of the United States, the court of ultimate jurisdiction in the United States.

Ms. Chemas is a past chairwoman of the Information Security Committee, as well as past Co Chair of the Open Source Software Committee, of the American Bar Association. She received write in support for the position of Queens District Attorney in 2015. Ms. Chemas has coached and judged mock trial tournaments, and supported small business owners. Ms. Chemas is a former Membership and Diversity Committee Appointee at the American Bar Association. She is a native New Yorker, enrolled at an internship at a lower Manhattan non-profit, serving the people of New York City, on 9/11.

In law school Ms. Chemas served as Executive Editor of the Brief, the former newspaper of the CUNY Law School Community. In studying law, Martha chose to follow the footsteps of her great uncles, who practiced diplomacy, and supported capitalism and the rule of law. Ms. Chemas, daughter of immigrants, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Stony Brook University, where she was an elected Polity Senator, as well as an elected to the Executive Board of a student newspaper.

 

Ms. Chemas has previously taught Contract Law as a Teaching Assistant, and Business Law as a Guest Lecturer. In addition to enjoying legal writing, she is a published author of long and short form prose fiction, and a blog founder. Ms. Chemas, in compliment to the multinational firm experience referenced above, practiced law at the sole proprietorship she operated, with offices previously on the 85th floor of 1 World Trade Center.

 

Ms. Chemas enjoys teaching law. She prefers to concentrate on Business, Corporate and Commercial Law.
